We often associate percale with a fabric, but it's a weaving technique that gives the fabric exceptional quality and properties.

Cotton percale is made from the longest cotton fibers. The essential characteristic of cotton percale is its tight, regular weave: the threads cross (one above - one below) continuously and evenly. A minimum of 80 threads per square centimeter is required to produce percale. The result is a fabric that is both supple and, above all, strong.

This weave structure gives percale stability and strength over the length, as well as a high-quality finish and feel. And the tighter and denser the percale weave, the more beautiful and luxurious the final bed linen. It will be not only soft, but also resistant. Top-of-the-range bed linen cannot do without a weave of this quality.

Thanks to its cotton percales woven in France, Julie Lavarière creates exceptional bed linen collections and aims to provide its customers with the qualities of an exceptional sheet, notably with a weave of 120 threads/cm2. A unique savoir-faire from the workshops of a French weaver, from the Vosges to be precise.

The main qualities of top-of-the-range percale :

  • Unique softness, silky touch;
  • Incomparable durability over time and washes;
  • Durable fabric, longer life.

Different numbers of wires per square centimetre?

The higher the number of threads/cm2 in the weave, the better the specific qualities of percale:

80 wires/cm2: "high-end" standard

120 wires/cm2: very "high-end", luxury

Higher weave: rare, exceptional product

The Julie Lavarière brand aims to make exceptional cotton Percale its specialty. Its silky-smooth feel makes it one of the most popular fabrics for bed linen: whether for comforter covers, sheets or pillowcases.

Good to know: the percale weave gives your bed linen a matt appearance, unlike satin bed linen, for example, which is shinier.

How to care for percale bed linen?

The quality of the percale fabric makes it very easy to iron. Its high resistance ensures that your bed linen will hold up impeccably over time. When it comes to washing, percale fabric requires the same care as other fabrics. It is washable up to 60° for colors.

As with all types of linen, maximum recommended temperatures must be respected if you wish to preserve the beauty of your bed linen set. 60° is more than sufficient for washing whites, while 40° is suitable for regular care and preserves the brilliance of colors.

All these advantages explain why percale bed linen commands a higher price than other products. Not all fabrics are created equal, and the same applies to weaving methods.

The quality of the percale fabric is superior. You'll immediately feel the difference when you slip into a soft, supple percale sheet. It's highly breathable, so you sleep better. You'll also notice the difference over time, as its high quality ensures that your sheets will last, without fading.
